Background

Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic was established in 1963 by the Shri Vile Parle Kelvani Mandal with a  donation of Rs. 7,50,000 from Shri Arvind Mafatlal and his brothers and named after their uncle Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal.

Mafatlal family and their industries have taken keen interest in developing the polytechnic and given financial support which stands at Rs 43,26,000/- at present.

This polytechnic is one of the 22 other educational institutions, from a Shishu Vihar to college of Law and Engineering, run by the Mandal. This polytechnic also comes under the World Bank Technician Education Project and receives project funds from State and Central Government for establishing facilities and developing infrastructure. The polytechnic has an excellent interaction and liaison with industries and has received financial support for a variety of projects and towards equipment support. This polytechnic has the added benefit of being supported by World Bank, Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and Government of India under the Dept. of Electronics Impact Project.

Location And Campus

The polytechnic is located at Vile Parle (West) in Mumbai, surrounded by other educational institutions. The grounds plus two storeyed building of the polytechnic houses the Administrative Office, Class rooms, Library, Laboratories, Drawing halls, Staff rooms, Engineering Workshops as well as Canteen, Staff club and Students Common Rooms. There is an air conditioned conference room for holding meetings. The building and its aminities are well maintained.

Institutional Environment

The polytechnic has clearly delineated objectives, approach to student development, strategy for involvement of the industry and a well defined assessment and evaluation procedure. These provide the frame work in which the various activities of the institute are carried out.
